Hey, folks! Don Mango here. Let me tell you a bit about Tamarindo in Costa Rica. Now, listen up, because this beach is consessioned land, which means the government owns the land 150 meters from high tide. So, if you “buy” on the beach, you’re just leasing the land from the government. Don’t worry, you won’t see too many homes on the beach, just a few original tico-style homes. And if you’re looking for a condo complex directly on the beach, sorry, pal, you’re out of luck.
But don’t fret! There are plenty of boutique hotels, restaurants, bars, and tourist huts along the shoreline. They’re touting fishing trips, horseback rides, and (of course) surfing lessons. And the condos and homes in town are still walkable to the beach, so don’t let that stop you.
Now, let’s talk about the housing options. We’ve got luxury penthouse condos that’ll cost you a cool $1 million. And we’ve also got basic two-bedroom townhouses for as little as $139,000. And everything in between! Most of the larger condo complexes have security, but if you’re into the stand-alone homes, sorry, no security for you.
But if you’re willing to venture out a little further, there are high-end gated communities and independent homes in the hills with sweeping views of Tamarindo Bay. And let me tell you, those Pacific sunsets are something else. But, if you’re on a budget, head to the outskirts of town or the next inland town of Villareal, just 4 kms away. You’ll find significantly cheaper housing with brand new three-bedroom North American-style homes with a pool starting at $225,000 in a gated community. And mid-range properties in established neighborhoods can be found for $100,000 and up.
So, there you have it, folks. Tamarindo Beach has something for everyone, whether you’re a millionaire or on a budget. Just be prepared to walk a little further to get your toes in the sand.
